Welcome to Ash class, we hope you have had a relaxing and enjoyable summer holidays. We have planned some very exciting activities for the year which we hope your children will enjoy. I hope that this newsletter provides you with information for the term ahead, but if there are any questions that still need answering, please do not hesitate to ask.
Mrs Greenway and Mrs Lawler
English: We will be learning about Performance Poetry for the first two weeks, where we shall be learning how to perform poetry, using Michael Rosen as our inspiration. Following this, we will be moving onto story writing where we shall be discussing the different parts of a story and how we could use what we have learnt in our own writing. Spelling, grammar and handwriting will be taught each day.
Maths: We will be revisiting and building upon what we have learnt in Year 3. We will begin our maths sessions with place value and move onto multiplication. During this year, we will be completing weekly times table tests, so please work with your child to practise these at home. The purpose of these tests is to improve their fluency and speed, which can then be applied in different contexts.
Science: In Science this half term, we will be learning about electricity and creating different circuits. We will be testing different materials withing these circuits and investigating the results.
History: We will be learning about ancient civilisations, starting with the Indus Valley.
RE: We will be studying a variety of different faiths alongside Christianity, beginning with Hinduism.
Computing: We will learn about how to create story boards using animation.
French: First introductions
PSHE: This half term, we will be learning about the value of money.
Art: We will be learning how to sketch different real life objects.
Indoor PE: This will be on a Tuesday morning and for the first half term we will be working on dance.
Outdoor PE: Year 4 will be swimming on a Wednesday morning up until playtime.
Children are able to come into the classroom from 8:45 where there will be early morning activities for the children to complete. School will begin at 8:55, where the register will be taken. Please leave your child at the door so that they are able to come into the classroom independently. I will be at the door in the mornings so that you are able to speak to me if needs be. School finishes at 3:15, so please collect from the door or let us know if your child will be attending Shine Club.
Children are encouraged to bring in a water bottle which they are able to drink throughout the day. Please make sure that water only is in these bottles and that they are labelled.
I look forward to spending time with your children and working alongside you during the next year!
